Rules, Regulations, & Resources

If you are looking to become a falconer, a good first step is to do some research. We take this sport very seriously and will only take on (sponsor) folks that are truly dedicated and can demonstrate their dedication by doing their research first.

You need to check out CPW's rules and regs first. You should also read the excellent article by the North American Falconer's Association.

If you know that you can dedicate the time, money, and energy to the sport, then contact our club through our contact page , or send an email directly to info@highplainsfalconers.com . One of our club's Master Falconers will reach out to you about the demands that falconry will put on you, as well as the first basic steps that you will need to follow in becoming a falconer.

Please understand that this is a hunting club. Many of us work full time and it may take a while to get back with you. We also need you to understand that taking on an Apprentice is at minimum a two year commitment for us. Please do not be upset or discouraged if we cannot sponsor you as we have a lot going on ourselves; there may be another Master available or even at a later date.

Falconry is a hunting sport and while we know many folks have watched videos online or seen articles on social media, these videos and articles aren't always truthful or the "behind the scenes" of it all. Falconry is highly regulated here in the US! We encourage you to meet/have a phone call with an available Master to ask questions and learn about the sport. Go on a hunt if someone is available and willing to take you (not all of us can so please be understanding).
